Cranberry and Goat's Cheese Love Scones

What flavors define love for you?  The conventional chocolate, strawberries and oysters are just a bit too cliched now.  The aphrodisiacs for the current generation should involve beetroot, duck and goat's cheese.  These are definitely my top three foods of love.   Beetroot dyes everything a lovely pink and goes along with all your other aphrodisiacs like those mentioned above.  There's just something so luxurious about duck that makes it very worthy of a special occasion.  And then there's goat's cheese.  I don't even know how to explain it.  It just is sexy and romantic.

Goat's cheese is like the popular nice kid in school that gets along with everyone.  You can even find it playing around in a sweet setting like a chocolate goat's cheese cheese cake.  It just shines when paired with sharp sweet flavors in savory dishes though.  So here I've put it together with dried cranberries.

These scones are incredibly soft and tender.  They're not meant to be...  I followed this recipe which asked for 100ml of milk but I somehow read that as 200ml. I thought it was the end of the world but no it wasn't!  In the recipe below I've kept it as 100ml but if you're curious as to what scones with too much milk taste like, well, it's not bad.  When you make silly mistakes like that, just remember, don't tell people that you've made a mistake, just tell them it's something else.  They're not scones they're fluffy dinner rolls or something.  Once I made double chocolate brownie/cookies when in fact I was trying to make double chocolate scones, but nobody knew!

Recipe adapted from here
Makes about 6 scones
Ingredients
200g flour
5g baking powder
40g butter, cubed, chilled
80g goat's cheese, crumbled
a handful of dried cranberries
100ml milk

Method
Preheat oven to 220C.

Mix the flour and baking powder together in a medium bowl and rub in the butter until it looks like coarse bread crumbs.  Using a wooden spoon, mix in the goat's cheese, cranberries and then slowly pour in the milk.  Just when the dough comes together, put it on a floured surface and pat it down to about 3cm thick.

I used heart shaped cookie cutters but you can use whatever, and just cut into individual scones.  Place on baking sheet, brush with some beaten egg yolk or milk if desired and put it in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden on top.
